Montbron is a very pretty market town, it is found in the Charente department of South Western France, it lies in the
area sometimes referred to as the Swiss Charente, as the countryside and way of life is reminiscent of that of parts of Switzerland.
The region is also said to resemble Tuscany... So it is easy to see that Montbron has a glorious setting. Montbron
has several small markets every Tuesday and Thursday, and has a large market attracting nearly 15,000 people on the first
Friday in every August. Peugut also has a large market every Wednesday and is only 15 kilometres away. Montbron has
5 bars/cafes, 2 restaurants, 3 supermarkets and a small variety of local shops, and so although Montbron is a small village,
it has everything for your short term needs. There are 3 Golf courses nearby, and Saint Sornin is only a 10 minute
drive, where you can see the local vineyards and try samples of the local wine at the wine shop. Montbron also has
both an indoor and outdoor swimming pool.
St Esteph is only 12 Kilometers away, just inside the Dordiogne border,
here, there is a man made lake and beach, bar, cafes, restraunt.

The main attractions here are, the fishing, Montbron sits on the Tardoire river (a fishing permit is required by French
Law, this can be obtained in Montbron). A full years licence costs 78.50 Euros and enables the holder to fish 1st and 2nd
category waters, a holiday licence is now available and costs 32.00 Euros for 15 days from June 1st to December 31st , there
is also a daily license for just 10 Euros.

Walking & Cycling trips, there are numerous walks and cycle tracks from 5 kilometers to 20 kilometres through
the lovely countryside.

Canoeing, which can be enjoyed by all the family, the canoeing trips vary from 5 to 17 kilometres, all that you need
is supplied by the local company, the river will take you past some stunning scenery, including mills and chateau's, and take
you over many weirs, built with the canoeist in mind. Prices start from 9 euros to 22 euros as of 2008.
